Unite Reaction to AEGON Announcement to Cut Back 116 Jobs


LONDON, January 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Unite, the UK's largest union, has been informed that there will be a
restructure of the IT department in AEGON UK at two of its sites in Lytham
and Edinburgh which could result in 116 job losses.


The company has begun a 90 Day consultation period with unions Unite and
AEGIS.


Michael Gray, General Secretary of Aegis, the union that represents staff
at the Edinburgh site said: "We are working closely with the company to
ensure that as many of the affected staff as possible can be redeployed."


John Nolan, Unite National Official, who represents staff at Lytham
said: "This has come as no surprise given the economic downturn but we will
oppose any compulsory redundancies."


Both unions will be working closely with the company during the 90 day
consultation process to ensure compulsory redundancies can be avoided.
